What is Metaverse?

I'm very sure you have heard about Metaverse on the internet before. A lot of people know and already use Metaverse but millions of people still do not know what Metaverse is all about. In this informative article, I will explain all the necessary information that you need to know about Metaverse.

Several technology companies and web and application developers have been working to make an impact that brings Metaverse to real life.

Several online game universes like Fortnite, Minecraft, and Roblox already have inklings from the Metaverse. These companies are investing in Metaverse.

What Is The Metaverse?

Metaverse is one of the mixtures of several elements of technology including video, augmented reality, and virtual reality. All users “live” in a digital universe. It is the method for people to connect with each other through virtual trips, conferences, and concerts.

The metaverse, which simply means “meta” and “universe”, is an imputation of the Internet. It supports persistent online 3-D virtual environments via conventional personal computing, virtual reality, and augmented realities headsets.

Metaverse is currently available on numerous platforms like VRChat and video games like Second Life.

The focus of Metaverse is to expand the technological limitations and use and accessibility of metaverse spaces for business, education, and retail.  Since it became popular Metaverse has been criticized for using a method of building public relations using a speculative and “over-hyped” concept that is based on existing technology. Metaverse implementation in Video games

Modern internet-enabled games have developed many components of metaverse technology. Second Life, a 2003 video game, is referred to as the first metaverse. It incorporated several aspects of social media into a persistent virtual environment.

Many multiplayer online games include social functions. Clive Thompson, a technology journalist, has claimed that Minecraft’s social-based gaming is an advanced implementation for the metaverse.

Virtual Reality

Metaverse focused on the efforts to improve virtual reality technology because of the benefits of establishing immersion in a virtual environment. Facebook Horizon, a social virtual world created by Facebook, was launched in 2019. In 2021, Facebook would be renamed “Meta Platforms” and the CEO Mark Zuckerberg declared his commitment to creating a metaverse ecosystem.

Most of the virtual reality technology used by Meta Platforms is still being developed. Microsoft is one of the technology companies that invested in Metaverse after the purchase of AltspaceVR VR in 2017 and plans to integrate metaverse features into Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft is also one of the technology companies that has invested in Metaverse. They revealed their plans to bring mixed-reality, including holograms, and virtual avatars to Microsoft Teams by 2022 earlier this month.

3D virtual connected spaces are also in their planning. Microsoft and the U.S. Army are currently working together to create an augmented reality Hololens2 headset that soldiers can use to train, practice, and fight. Xbox Live connects millions more video game players around the world.

Roblox CEO David Baszucki thanked everyone who had helped make the platform “one step closer towards fulfilling our vision for the #Metaverse” on March’s IPO. Roblox and skateboarding shoe company Vans worked together to create Vans World. This virtual skateboarding park allows players to dress up in Vans gear.
